UWP Gets Unlocked Frame Rate & G-SYNC/Freesync Support Today, But Exclusive Full Screen Isn't Coming

The Universal Windows Platform or UWP got a lot of flack in its early days, and deservedly so. The first UWP games published by Microsoft on their store suffered from several problems, such equally forced VSYNC and no support for AMD'south Freesync/NVIDIA G-SYNC technologies.

After a huge initial backfire, Microsoft promised to address the aforementioned problems in an update scheduled for May. Information technology seems like the company delivered: a blog post simply announced that later today, Windows ten will be updated with the fixes.

We're listening – and acting

As a direct response to your feedback, we're excited to announce the release today of new updates to Windows 10 that make gaming even better for game developers and gamers.

After today, Windows 10 will exist updated with two cardinal new features:

  • Support for AMD's FreesyncT and NVIDIA's G-SYNC in Universal Windows Platform games and apps
  • Unlocked frame rate for Universal Windows Platform (UWP) games and apps

In one case applications take advantage of these new features, y'all will exist able to play your UWP games with unlocked frame rates. We expect Gears of State of war: UE and Forza Motorsport 6: Apex to pb the way by adding this support in the very virtually hereafter.

These updates to UWP join the already not bad support for unlocked frame rate and AMD and NVIDIA's technologies in Windows 10 for classic Windows (Win32) apps.

Looking further into the future, you can expect to meet some exciting developments on multiple GPUs in DirectX 12 in the near future, and a truly impressive array of DirectX 12 titles after this summertime and fall.

This all sounds rather nice, though information technology doesn't mean that we'll get access to Sectional Full Screen under UWP. According to Microsoft, with Windows 10 and DirectX 12 Borderless Total Screen performs merely also as Sectional Full Screen would with the added benefits of quicker alt-tabbing.

Does DirectX 12 and UWP support full screen exclusive mode?

Full screen exclusive mode was created back in the original release of DirectDraw to provide games with enhanced performance when using the entire screen.
